Thurston Building Systems recently reported in the media the growth of its YMC Container Solutions business with the creation of 100 new jobs at the factories in Belprin and Brandesburton near Hull. Following on from this success, the company is pleased to report further success with the order book growing from £5million to £14million thanks to additional orders from the German market. This success is translating into real growth for the local employment market as Thurston has created an additional 60 jobs being created across their factories.
Since its creation over 40 years ago Wakefield-based Thurston Building Systems has continually evolved its operation to the extent that it is now one of the longest-standing modular and portable building manufacturers in the UK. Its successful evolution continued in February when Thurston strengthened its brand once more with the acquisition of Brandesburton and Beverley-based company, Yorkshire Marine Containers Ltd (YMCL), now rebranded as YMC Container Solutions.
“We have fully incorporated YMC into the Thurston family. The acquisition of this company has allowed us to extend our product range as they manufacture a specialist container that is used in the offshore industry, the nuclear industry and the logistics sector,” explains Jonathan Petch, Chief Executive. “Thurston already operates in a wide range of sectors across the UK including health, education, sport, industrial and commercial and YMC has allowed us to further develop our customer base and our export operation”
YMC Container Solutions continues to grow and surpass expectations. When only last year the company was in administration, it is now seeing substantial growth, achieving financial stability and contributing to the local economy. Looking forward to 2012 it will be interesting to see what Thurston Building Systems will achieve next.
Thurston Building Systems has created 100 new jobs at its YMC Container Solutions site in the Brandesburton area near Hull, demonstrating it’s commitment to growth in a time where unemployment figures have been soaring.
Thurston’s acquired YMC in February of this year and have since turned around the ailing business to achieve success in the portable marine container market. Thanks to a £5 million order which has been won in the German transport and logistics market, Thurston’s have been able to increase the number of staff at the Catfoss plant and are also taking on another factory to increase their capacity across the group. Jobs to be created include welders, fabricators, shot-blasters and painters.
Jonathan Petch (CEO for Thurston Building Systems) commented, “This is an exciting time for Thurston’s and we are working towards growth, despite the economy. The acquisition of YMCL has proved to be a success story for both our business and the local area. We are looking forward to strengthening our highly skilled workforce through the creation of 100 new jobs.”
