Is a multi-use container suitable for transporting everything?

If you’ve recently started looking for shipping containers, you’ve probably been left perplexed by all of the different names; there doesn’t seem to be anything such as a ‘standard’ container, until you come across the multi-use container. While this might seem perfect to you, don’t immediately buy the container because you presume that it will meet all of your needs.

There are plenty of factors in making sure that you’re purchasing the right container to suit your needs. It isn’t just a case of buying any container and hoping for the best; in fact, there is a lot worth considering.

So, how do you ensure that you pick the right container for your business? With so many different containers to decide between, it isn’t the easiest of decisions. In fact, you might still believe that the multi-use container is the ideal choice for you; if it’s multi-use, you think, it must be suitable for transporting anything and everything. Unfortunately, that isn’t how it works.

Here’s why multi-use containers aren’t suitable for everything, and some tips to make sure that the container you’re buying will do exactly what you want it to.

Why isn’t a multi-use container suitable for transporting everything?

There are plenty of reasons that this container might not be suited to you, which we’re going to explain here:

  • Not the right size: Often, multi-use containers are constructed at a size that’s presumed to be suitable for everybody. While this might be fine for a lot of things – in fact, it’s certainly the best choice for the majority of things – it doesn’t mean that it’s going to be ideal for you. Once you’ve purchased your container, there is often no going back; you need to make sure that you buy the right container the first time, so you must guarantee that it’s the right size for your business.
  • It might be unsafe: Depending upon what you’re transporting, some goods are naturally not suited to the multi-use container option. In some cases, transporting the wrong things in multi-use containers is potentially extremely hazardous. One example of this would be if you decided that you were going to transport nuclear waste in your container. Multi-use containers are very robust and suitable for transferring a range of things, so you might presume that they’re suitable for transporting nuclear waste; unfortunately, this isn’t the case. You need to have specific containers for transporting particularly abrasive materials.
  • Not secure enough: Depending on what you’re transporting, you’re going to want to make sure that the contents of the container are extremely safe. Sometimes, a multi-use container isn’t as secure as some of the other options that are available. For example, depending on what you’re transporting, equipment housings might be the ideal option for what you’re trying to protect.

How many alternative shipping containers are there?

Have you come to the realisation that the shipping container you already own just isn’t going to do what you want of it? Don’t worry; there are plenty of other shipping containers that can do the job you want them to do perfectly well.

Although we’re not going to explain all of the different shipping containers available in detail here, there are plenty of different containers for you to choose from when you know you need your next container.

If you are looking to purchase new containers, you should try and make sure that you work with a business that you know you can trust. If you do, you can rest assured that you’re going to be buying quality shipping containers that suits your needs exactly.
